What it covers

The sequence for confirming the survey and isolations before any tools come out, then stripping and removing material in a controlled order. It records the pre-demolition asbestos survey, the isolation of gas, electrical and water services, and the sign-off that the elements being removed are non-load-bearing.

Hazards and controls

Disturbing asbestos, controlled by the survey and by stopping if anything unexpected is found. Structural collapse, controlled by the non-load-bearing sign-off and a top-down order of work. Then respirable crystalline silica and dust, controlled by suppression and extraction, and falling debris. Controls follow the hierarchy, so the survey and isolations come before PPE.

Competence and survey

Demolition needs a competent operative and a valid pre-demolition or refurbishment asbestos survey to HSG264. The method statement names the survey, the isolations and the competence required, so a principal contractor can check it at a glance.

FAQ

Does it cover the asbestos survey?
Yes. The pre-demolition or refurbishment asbestos survey is the first step in the numbered method, and disturbing asbestos is in the risk assessment with the matching controls.
Does it confirm the walls are non-load-bearing?
It records the requirement for a competent sign-off that the elements being removed are non-load-bearing before work starts. That sign-off is the client's or a structural engineer's to give.
Can I add my own steps?
Yes. Download it as Word and edit anything to match the building, the services and the scope you are working to.
What does it cost?
