What it covers

The sequence for isolating the gas and electrical supplies, draining down, removing the old appliance and commissioning the new one. It records the tightness test, the flue integrity and spillage checks, and the gas soundness and combustion readings taken before the boiler is handed back.

Hazards and controls

Gas escape and fire, controlled by isolation, the tightness test and working to the manufacturer's instructions. Carbon monoxide from a poor flue, controlled by flue integrity and spillage checks and a flue gas analyser. Then scalding from a hot system, electric shock and manual handling of the appliance. Controls follow the hierarchy, so isolation comes before PPE.

Competence and registration

Gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, on the right appliance categories. The method statement names the registration and the standards it works to, for example the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, so a client or principal contractor can check it at a glance.

FAQ

Does it cover the tightness test?
Yes. The tightness test and the flue and combustion checks are part of the numbered method, and gas escape and carbon monoxide are in the risk assessment with the matching controls.
Is it only for Gas Safe engineers?
The work is. The document records the Gas Safe registration and the appliance categories, and a registered engineer must review and sign it off before use.
Can I add my own steps?
Yes. Download it as Word and edit anything to match the appliance, the system and the property you are working on.
What does it cost?
