What it covers
The sequence for erecting, altering and dismantling the scaffold, built to SG4 so a guardrail is in place before anyone works off the lift. Hazards and controls
Falls from height during erection and dismantling, controlled by the SG4 collective method and, only where a residual risk remains, a harness. Collapse from poor foundations, missing ties or overloading, controlled by the design, tie testing and the load class on the Scafftag. Then falling materials, controlled by toe boards, brick guards and an exclusion zone below. Controls follow the hierarchy, so the safe system comes before PPE.
Competence and inspection
Scaffolding needs a competent scaffolder, carded to the right CISRS grade for the job, with complex work supervised by an Advanced scaffolder. The method statement names the competence required and the standard it works to, so a principal contractor can check it at a glance. It records the statutory inspections: before first use, every seven days, and after anything that could affect stability.
