What it covers
The sequence for removing the old frame, preparing the opening, fitting and fixing the new window, and sealing it. It records the access used at each floor, how the opening is kept guarded while it is empty, and how glass and old frames are carried and removed.
Hazards and controls
Falls from towers or scaffold, controlled by guardrails and trained users. Falls from an open first-floor opening inside the house, controlled by keeping the opening guarded and people away from it. Broken glass and heavy sealed units, controlled by suction lifters and two-person lifts. Then silica dust from drilling fixings, falling objects onto the footway, and asbestos in old window boards and panels. Controls follow the hierarchy, so guarding and lifting aids come before PPE.
Competence and registration
Window installation needs competent fitters with PASMA training for towers. Replacement windows also need Building Regulations compliance, often shown through a competent person scheme such as FENSA. The method statement names the competence required, so a client or principal contractor can check it at a glance.
