What it covers

The sequence for checking formwork and reinforcement, setting up the wagon and pump, placing and compacting the concrete, and finishing the slab. It records the delivery route, the banksman, the pump outrigger positions and the curing and protection after the pour.

Hazards and controls

Wagons and pumps reversing near people, controlled by a planned route and a trained banksman. A pump overturning on soft ground, controlled by checking the ground and spreading the outrigger loads. Hose whip and blockages, controlled by the pump operator's procedure and keeping people clear of the hose end. Then burns and dermatitis from wet concrete, vibration from pokers and floats, and impalement on exposed bars. Controls follow the hierarchy, so the route and exclusion zones come before PPE.

Competence and training

A concrete pour needs a supervisor, a trained banksman, and operators trained on the power float and plant. The pump operator and wagon driver come from the supplier. The method statement names the competence required, so a principal contractor can check it at a glance.

FAQ

Does it cover the concrete pump?
Yes. Pump set-up and the exclusion zone are part of the numbered method, and overturning and hose whip are in the risk assessment with the matching controls.
Does it cover wet concrete burns?
Yes. Wet concrete is in the risk assessment and the COSHH assessment, with the controls for skin and eye contact.
Can I add my own steps?
Yes. Download it as Word and edit anything to match the slab, the mix and the plant you are using.
What does it cost?
Your first document is free. After that, £15 each, three for £35, or ten for £89. No subscription. You can read a full sample before you decide.
