A solar PV method statement that matches the array you're fitting.

Describe the solar panel installation, from a small domestic array to a commercial roof. You get a method statement and risk assessment back, with work at height, DC safety and isolation built in.

What it covers

The sequence for fixing roof anchors and rails, lifting and mounting the modules, running the DC cabling and connecting the inverter to the supply. It records the scaffold handover, how modules are raised to the roof, and the tests and commissioning before the system is handed over.

Hazards and controls

Falls from the roof, controlled by scaffold with edge protection. Electric shock from DC cabling, controlled by treating every module as live in daylight and making DC connections with the isolators open. Electric shock at the consumer unit, controlled by safe isolation, lock-off and proving dead. Then falling objects, manual handling of modules in wind, and silica dust from drilling. Controls follow the hierarchy, so the scaffold and isolation come before PPE.

Competence and certification

Solar PV needs an installer trained in the IET Code of Practice for grid-connected solar PV, and an electrician qualified to BS 7671 for the AC connection. The method statement names the competence and the standards it works to, so a client or principal contractor can check it at a glance.

FAQ

Does it cover live DC cabling?
Yes. The DC connection sequence is part of the numbered method, and electric shock from the modules and strings is in the risk assessment with the matching controls.
Can I add my own steps?
Yes. Download it as Word and edit anything to match the roof, the mounting system and the inverter you are using.
Will it be accepted on site?
It follows the HSE five steps and the CDM 2015 framing site managers expect. A competent person still has to review and sign it off before use.
What does it cost?
Your first document is free. After that, £15 each, three for £35, or ten for £89. No subscription. You can read a full sample before you decide.
